Below you can find information on activities that FinnFusion is carrying out in order to facilitate fruitful collaboration within the Finnish nuclear ecosystem.

The common goal is to build strong networks and become more competitive in the Big Science market. Everything in FinnFusion is based on deep technological and scientific research.

  • Finnish nuclear ecosystem

      Finland has a reputation as a competent, reliable, and efficient player in the nuclear industry, from nuclear power plant (NPP) operation, nuclear waste management and regulation all the way to research required to make new nuclear happen. We are in an excellent position to create new business for Finnish actors through collaboration and networking.

      Business Finland advances Finnish research and the business ecosystem in fusion and other new areas of nuclear research, which are also strongly supported by EU projects. The research and business activities realise the Finnish government’s visions with ambitious goals. Finland aims to become a leading technology hub for district heating using small modular reactors (SMRs) and an efficient innovation platform that brings together existing nuclear expertise and new nuclear know-how. The new nuclear industry needs to fully exploit high technologies such as mixed reality, digital twins, robotics, and artificial intelligence.

  • FinnFusion is about sharing information and building new capabilities

      We collect and analyse Open Innovation opportunities within Big Science projects like ITER and DEMO.

      We share information between research and intermediate organisations and Finnish companies to utilise the full potential of these BIG Science projects.

      We help Finnish SMEs to find opportunities in ITER and DEMO projects. We support their business model transition towards open innovation in business relations. We help identify potential co-offering partners and customers to meet the customer needs and market requirements.

  • Co-creation, matchmaking, and networking

      FinnFusion organises regular business and innovation events.

      Open Business Day

      Open Business Day is an effortless way to see if you would like to become a partner or member. Join to learn what it requires to enter the fusion business, and to network with many companies in a comparable situation. Open Business Days are open to all interested participants and organised jointly across FinnFusion, dECOmm and EcoSMR projects.

      Roundtables

      Facilitated round tables are a possibility for closed groups to have detailed technical discussions on specific topics. Relevant business strategies, specifically for Big Science projects, are identified via ecosystem research and shared by VTT in round tables.

      Participating in international events together

      FinnFusion and FinNuclear members participate in business events domestically and internationally, distributing information and connecting business partners and potential customers.

  • The Big Science market is unique

      ITER, DEMO and businesses are all “customers” in the European innovation ecosystem environment. The value chain goes both ways. This is different from traditional “buy-sell” business since Big Science projects often need solutions that either do not yet exist or they are not aware of any solution.

      A Big Science project must sell the needs to the innovation market, make sure that the information and awareness are passed on to potential solution providers. This activates the market to provide new or existing solutions for Big Science. The structure and processes for this are needed and on the national level, they provide a possibility to achieve a competitive edge.
